Iverson Black Herefords
FAQs
Let Us Know How We Can Help You
Q: What makes Iverson Black Herefords different from other cattle breeders?
A: Iverson Black Herefords prides itself on raising high-quality, registered Black Hereford cattle. Our experience as commercial cattle producers have taught us the importance of breeding for length and carcass weight, rather than chasing YW at the expense of other traits. We have kept our commercial calves in the past to slaughter and have seen when you chase high YW number you get larger live weights with smaller hot carcass (you can't eat guts). When you cross our Homo Black Hereford bulls with your mixed cows, you can expect to see all black baldie calves with no gate cut in the fall when you sell (no more gate cutting your red calves, your calves will sell in one group and there is always a demand for black baldie females).
Q: What are the benefits of choosing Iverson Black Herefords for your cattle needs?
A: By choosing Iverson Black Herefords, you are choosing to work with a breeder that values quality over quantity. Our registered Black Hereford cattle are bred for length and carcass weight, resulting in a higher yield and greater profitability for our customers. We pride ourselves with our foundation females and from breeder that have proven maternal females, this is the foundation of any herd. Our herd sires carry through with them traits (Powerball, Lambeau, Frontier, HH Advance 6042, JO Atomic, JO Disruptor, GRBH Midnight & GRBH Twisted Brutus). Additionally, our commitment to breeding for 90% Hereford, hardiness and adaptability means that our cattle can thrive in a variety of environments.
Q: How can I purchase Iverson Black Hereford cattle?
A: We offer a variety of options when it comes to purchasing our registered Black Hereford cattle. You can buy bulls and heifers directly from our ranches and we also offer semen for sale.

It all started in 2019 with our first Reg Herefords from River Bank Ranch
Fall of 2018 when the calves were sold, we knew that a change was needed, the sales barn gate cut out steers 2 ways based on color and red baldies sold .45 cents back. As commercial cattleman we have tried all the bulls, Char/Red Angus/Black Angus, Black Sim and noticed that all breeds were chasing YW number and done his by adding guts while reducing the length of cattle. Hereford stood out, 50 to 80 pound gain at weaning, demand for black baldie heifers. Over the years I have seen bull batteries when I sold feed throught out Montana, North Dakota, Wyoming and Idaho. Alot of larger ranch would be 60% Black Angus, 40% Horned Hereford and when buyers would arrive to look at the calves, the premiums were in the black baldies. Even Black Angus breeders with buyback programs would buy even the baldies and put through their certified Angus programs. We also have a small commercial herd to show people what color calves are from a mixed herd (wife handpicked her herd when we made the change to reg). So Hal, I sat with Jon Ficek and said we need a change. From past experience of feed effectiveness, pounds across the scale in the fall that Black Herefords was the answer for the commercial operator with a mixed herd. We offer you an opportunity for consistent black colored calves in the fall. When we sold all off the commercial steer calves in one group with no gate cut we knew the direction the market took us.
